PROFESSIONAL HIGHLIGHTS

Ted Roach 2014

Sammy Slate Productions

Director / Producer / Editor  -  2001-Present

Launched an independent production company in 2001 to develop film, video and web-based projects, and to collaborate as a co-production entity with others on outside projects. Conceive ideas, write scripts, organize schedules and budgets, work cameras, lighting and sound equipment, and edit. Most notably we released “120 Days” in 2015, a feature documentary about illegal immigration that I wrote, directed, and edited.

  1. -“120 Days” premiered in the Austin Film Festival and has won 10 awards and 4 nominations in 25 film festivals so far, inlcuding St. Louis, RiverRun, Atlanta, Palm Beach, and Dances With Films.

  2. -Projects have been broadcast internationally and competed in more than 40 film festivals, including winning awards for Best Feature & Best Director (2015 Richmond Int’l), Best Documentary (“120 Days”/Kansas Int’l, Charleston Int’l, Longleaf, CineVision Fest, “Somay Ku”/2008 Malibu), Best Made-in-NC (“120 Days”/Longleaf), and Best Student Film (“Gentleman Don La Mancha”/2007 Mexico Int’l).

“Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life” on MTV

DiGa Vision / Magic Seed Productions

Editor / Producer  -  January 2011 - December 2013

Produced and co-edited an MTV docu-series following the life of international pop star, Ke$ha, as she traveled around the world on her first headlining tour. Shooting began in 2011 when I worked for Magic Seed Productions. The project was sold to MTV in early 2013, ultimately becoming season one of "Ke$ha: My Crazy, Beautiful Life." The six-episode, first season premiered in April 2013, and the eight-episode second season premiered in October 2013.

  1. -I co-produced the original treatment and budget, pitched the series to  multiple networks/distributors, traveled on Ke$ha’s bus for multiple shows as a cameraman and sound operator, and spent months rough cutting hundreds of hours of footage.

  2. -After the project was sold to MTV and DiGa Vision, I remained onboard as a producer and consulting editor through end of the first season, and then was re-hired as a producer/editor when the network opted for season two.
